NJIT welcomed 35 data science students to its newly opened NJIT@JerseyCity location this semester, with a goal of doubling that number in the spring and reaching 500 students in three years, Ying Wu College of Computing Dean Craig Gotsman said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony held December 5 at the new location.
Jason Baynes says he was fortunate to have had the opportunity to be part of a pre-college program that exposed him to science and math in many more ways than his school did. In summer 1989, before he entered eighth grade, his mother — then a math supervisor in Teaneck who was always on the lookout for summer programs for her students — enrolled him in a program at NJIT called the Junior High School Urban Engineering Program (JHSUEP).
On his first day of college, Stephen DePalma ’72 and his classmates received blunt words about their daunting engineering curriculum from then-President Robert Van Houten, clearly intended as a form of “no nonsense” motivation: “Look to your left and look to your right – one of those people will not be there at graduation.”
Researchers at NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) have partnered with RiskVal Financial Solutions, a New York City-based global supplier of Software as a Service for pre-trade analysis and risk management. The objective is to use cutting-edge data science techniques to model fluctuations in the bond market.
An array of more than 100 technology-focused engineers, device designers and project managers, joined by NJIT alumni and elected officials, gathered on campus today to mark the establishment of NJIT’s School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET) within the university’s Newark College of Engineering.
“Of course, NJIT will always have a special place in my heart as the institution that provided the foundation that continues to inspire me today,” noted James Stamatis ’85, chief executive officer of Louis Berger, a full-service engineering, architecture, planning, environmental, program and construction management and economic development firm based in Morristown, N.J.
