New Jersey Institute of Technology aims to be a nexus of innovation that embraces new tech, commercializes groundbreaking research, leverages its diversity and tackles global environmental and socioeconomic challenges under a new strategic plan that extends through 2030.

The plan, NJIT Makes An Innovation Nexus, identifies six priorities, spells out the university’s mission to be a leader in research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and reaffirms its core values, including collaboration, social responsibility, diversity and sustainability.

Four NJIT Highlanders are featured in NJBIZ’s Power 100 list for 2024, including President Teik C. Lim.

The others are Luis De La Hoz, who serves on NJIT’s Hispanic Latinx Leadership Council, and two members of the Board of Directors of NJIT’s New Jersey Innovation Institute: Debbie Hart and Michele Siekerka.

In its entry for Lim, the business publication cited the high rank that NJIT achieved from The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse last year: No. 19 in the U.S. — the second highest ranking for a public university.

Seventeen people associated with New Jersey Institute of Technology made ROI-NJ’s annual lists of influential power brokers in New Jersey, with three cracking the top Super 60 Power List.

The Super 60 honorees were President Teik C. Lim, Luiz De La Hoz, a member of NJIT’s Hispanic Latinx Leadership Council, and Michele Siekerka, a member of the Board of Directors of NJIT’s New Jersey Innovation Institute.

The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey have recognized NJIT as an Emerging Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Influencer in the chambers’ annual Trailblazer Awards program.

“This award affirms our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” said NJIT President Teik C. Lim. “Our goal is constant improvement as we attract, support and graduate an array of students from all backgrounds, including underrepresented residents in Newark and its surrounding communities. We want to embody the diverse world that we live in.”

NJIT’s Wellness and Events Center (WEC) has been dedicated with a new name — the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center — for outstanding contributions made by the university’s eighth president and former first lady that span more than three decades.

On Oct. 6, the campus community came together for the naming of NJIT’s world-class 220,000-square-foot multipurpose building, as Joel and Diane Bloom were honored with a dedication ceremony recognizing their “visionary leadership, steadfast advocacy, and years of exemplary service to the university community.”

New Jersey Institute of Technology has several of its own honored in ROI-NJ’s inaugural Champions of the C-Suite.

President Teik C. Lim and alumni Marjorie Perry, LeRoy Jones and Jeff Milanaik are among the honorees. Board of Trustees member Gary Dahms is also recognized.

Two New Jersey universities are coming together to ensure the future of one of northern New Jersey’s signature baseball venues.

Montclair State University and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) are partnering to renovate Yogi Berra Stadium, part of a multi-million-dollar collaboration that will provide a home field for both schools’ NCAA baseball programs. The project will have a total cost of $5.3 million, which will revamp the stadium for the 2024 season.

New Jersey Institute of Technology President Teik C. Lim and Oya Tukel, dean of NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management, are featured in NJBIZ’s Education Power 50 for 2023.

The publication recognized Lim, now in his second year as president, for the Newark university’s rise in national standing, particularly in The Wall Street Journal, and for “expanding its role in the fabric of its home city and New Jersey.”
