Biochemistry senior Alejandra Lopez-Diaz hasn’t wasted much time during her past three years at NJIT. Outside of class, she’s spent most of her free hours inside the university’s labs researching an aspect of time itself — our circadian clock, or the internal biological clock that helps takes us through various phases of the day from morning to night.
Even in the social distancing era, the show must go on for the art world. That includes the NJIT/Rutgers-Newark theatre arts community, which is soon returning to its audiences with a string of all-new virtual performances exploring art, click-based technology and social connections during physical isolation.
NJIT has announced the launch of a new initiative dedicated to the growing professional practice of creative placemaking — a field that places arts and culture at the center of community, social and economic development.
Since 1924, Victoria Foundation has awarded more than $300 million in grants to benefit Newark. One of the country’s oldest private foundations, Victoria dedicates itself to improving the lives of children and families in Newark, and protecting water resources and preserving open spaces throughout the Garden State.
NJIT has always been part of the fabric of Newark since it was established more than a century ago — and the ties between the two have never been stronger. In demonstrating its commitment to the city, the university became an integral partner in the comprehensive economic development strategy, “Newark 2020: Hire, Buy, Live Local,” a key component of which calls for employing more local residents.

Newark, NJ -- From July 22 - 25, 2019, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will welcome VOICE Summit 2019 — “the world’s largest voice tech conference.”
VOICE will be held for the second consecutive year at NJIT, drawing a roster of internationally recognized brands from around the world and nearly 5,000 attendees over the course of the four-day event interested in “reimagining how we interact with technology through voice.”
The focus of the event was why New Jersey is the best place for entrepreneurs and businesses in the U.S., as well for foreign firms seeking to enter the U.S. market, to invest in and grow their businesses. And the interest in doing so was indeed high, with upward of 150 people from over 40 industries — from accounting and architecture, to insurance and investment, to manufacturing and marketing and more — attending the inaugural ExploreNJ conference.
