In the span of just a few short weeks, NJIT student Braeden Perdue has gone from taking a summer job as a community organizer helping promote COVID-19 vaccine education and access across New Jersey, to becoming a voice for health care equality during the pandemic that has reached the White House and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
As the federally supported COVID-19 Community Vaccination Center at New Jersey Institute of Technology entered its final days, leaders of the operation that ultimately delivered 221,450 vaccinations in 90 days recognized each other for their cooperation, professionalism and humanity.
Officials from FEMA, the National Guard, U.S. Air Force, N.J. Department of Health, N.J. State Police and NJIT spoke during a ceremony inside the center, even while Air Force personnel continued to deliver vaccinations.

Not surprisingly, the year of 2020 proved a dominant source of inspiration for international and local Newark artists including those from the NJIT community, who recently showcased their diverse submissions spanning everything from traditional canvas works and digital art to poetry at this year’s Newark Arts Festival.
Undergrads Suzanne Hlinka ’21 and Nada Boules ‘21 have been applying the skills in game development and interior design that they’ve picked up at NJIT, and Mother Earth is thanking them for it. This past year, the pair of students began artistic projects promoting a more sustainable planet, and now, their creative talents have been recognized with the “Jim Wise Scholarship for Theatre: Communicating the Environment Through Art.”
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is pleased to announce that Robert C. Cohen ’83, ’84, ’87, of Basking Ridge, NJ, has been appointed Chair of its Board of Trustees. Cohen succeeds Stephen P. DePalma ’72, who stepped down after a distinguished seven-year term.
Faculty from Hillier College of Architecture and Design are formalizing their previously ad hoc collaborations with multiple NJIT departments, the City of Newark, local neighborhood groups and private developers into a new entity called the Newark Design Collaborative.
Last summer 35 11th-graders from four Newark high schools — Central, Malcolm X Shabazz, Science Park and Technology — participated in a seven-week enrichment program as part of the inaugural Math Success Initiative (MSI), an academic partnership between NJIT, the city of Newark and the Newark Board of Education (NBOE).
