faculty success

New Jersey Institute of Technology’s annual tradition of recognizing university faculty who have excelled as researchers, scholars and instructors took place Oct. 4 in the Central King Building’s Agile Strategy Lab.

“We celebrate the achievements of our faculty and educators here today not because of what they bring to the classroom or the laboratory, but because of the lives they change,” said John Pelesko, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “We celebrate their commitment to our common goal of student success and the pursuit of knowledge.”

In a testament to his commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB), David E. Jones, chief diversity officer at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), has been honored as one of the "2023 Top 15 Champions of Diversity" by DiversityGlobal Magazine. This recognition celebrates individuals who not only articulate the importance of DEIB but also actively implement measures to create a more inclusive world within and beyond their organizational spheres.

Publicly traded companies manipulate their financial documents more often when their officers and directors have well-connected social circles, Assistant Professor Ming Taylor (Ming Fang) of NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management found, earning her the Best Paper of 2022 award from British Accounting Journal.

Suresh U. Kumar, senior university lecturer and director of entrepreneurial programs in NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC), has been elected by the Board of Directors of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) as the next president of the New Jersey chapter, effective July 1, 2023.

TiE is one of the world’s largest entrepreneurship support organizations with over 30,000 members in 14 countries helping 25,000 startups with an economic impact of over $1 trillion, according to KPMG.

NJBIZ recognized two professors from New Jersey Institute of Technology and a division of the university’s New Jersey Innovation Institute in its latest lists of Healthcare Heroes.

The annual recognition salutes excellence, innovation and individuals who are “making a significant impact on the quality of health care in New Jersey,” NJBIZ noted in a story about this year’s honorees.

The Highlanders were honored in three different categories. Here’s a closer look at each.

NJIT’s largest and oldest college invited students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends to join together for NCE’s 25th Salute to Engineering Excellence celebration. The J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) Gallery has opened “Troy West: The Architecture and Art of Belonging,” an exhibition that showcases the drawings, sculptures and architectural projects of the late Troy West, RA.

Born in Pittsburgh, West began practicing architecture and art in the late 1950’s, with a specialty in community design advocacy. He moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1973 to become one of the founding faculty at the NJIT School of Architecture.

NJIT and the National Academy of Construction (NAC), with the support from the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine hosted a symposium to bring together members from the industry, government and academia to collectively work together to help students become much more productive when they enter the workforce and understand the concept of safety in their professions.

Taro Narahara, associate professor at the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, won a National Science Foundation I-Corps award for the development of flexible and intuitive design tools for multifamily residential housing.

This project proposes a platform for users to visually study possible housing complex designs and their potential performance in energy use intensity, environmental and some financial criteria based on preliminary sketches drawn by users.
