Samantha Montalbine '26 always knew that she liked engineering. She was team captain of her middle-school robotics team in Brooklyn, and at Freehold Township High School she took engineering classes and served as president of the Technology Students Association.

But when Montalbine applied to New Jersey Institute of Technology's Newark College of Engineering, she was uncertain about which engineering track would be the right one for her. She ended up choosing mechanical engineering for an unconventional reason.

Engineering students at New Jersey Institute of Technology waste no time turning ideas into reality.

From their first semester, NJIT undergraduates are challenged with imagining and designing technologies that explore practical applications for engineering principles. On March 6, students from the Newark College of Engineering (NCE) gathered to share their work at the 2026 First Year Engineering Design Showcase.

Chemistry and chemical engineering majors learn to make all kinds of compounds and solutions, but an afternoon focusing on the design and packaging of facial serum was probably a first for them.

That’s what happened on March 11 when 50 students gathered in NJIT’s Agile Strategy Lab, with the multipurpose room serving as an actual laboratory, for hands-on training in the science of cosmetics development.

More than 3,300 students and alumni filled the Joel & Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center and Naimoli Tennis Center on Sept. 17 for NJIT’s Fall 2025 Career Fair, one of the largest STEM-focused career fairs in the region. Nearly 240 organizations — spanning engineering, computing, architecture, life sciences, management and public service — were on hand to recruit for internships, co-ops, and entry-level roles.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced the launch of an innovative fan sentiment and analysis platform that will capture and evaluate real-time reactions from fans throughout the year leading up to the FIFA World Cup 2026™. Built to support regional stakeholders with actionable insights, the platform reinforces NJIT's role as a leader in data-driven innovation. The platform will provide insights into how fans experience the world’s biggest sporting event, measuring the impact of the tournament across the region.

A green space is growing on the roof of the Campus Center at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

It’s a community garden with five plots, each tended by students, staffers or professors with ample light and water. The output will be vegetables and herbs, with a portion donated to NJIT’s food pantry. The project has a broader purpose as well.

The Princeton Review continues to recognize New Jersey Institute of Technology as one of the best universities in the U.S.

NJIT is featured in this year’s edition of the educational services company’s guide, The Best 391 Colleges. Just 15% of all four-year colleges and universities made the guide, which NJIT has been in since its inception in 1992. The selections are listed alphabetically.
