Engineering students at New Jersey Institute of Technology waste no time turning ideas into reality. 

From their first semester, NJIT undergraduates are challenged with imagining and designing technologies that explore practical applications for engineering principles. On March 6, students from the Newark College of Engineering (NCE) gathered to share their work at the 2026 First Year Engineering Design Showcase. 

NJIT’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) marked a major milestone, celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Design Showcase — the college’s signature annual event that brings together students, alumni, faculty, benefactors and friends of Hillier College for an evening centered on design excellence, community and support for future generations of architects and designers.

A group of NJIT undergraduate and graduate students recently shared their STEM expertise with students in grades 3 to 5 from dozens of New Jersey schools.

A student proposal focused on restoring biodiversity, strengthening the Second River edge and deepening community engagement at Branch Brook Park was selected as the winning concept in NJIT’s latest Albert Dorman Honors College biodiversity initiative. 

The proposal, “Living Parks by Parks for People,” emerged from a presentation session in which six student teams each delivered five-minute proposals shaped by field research, biodiversity data and conversations with park visitors.

Radix IoT announced that its Dailenis González Frómeta Memorial Scholarships have been awarded to a total of 14 students at ULACIT (Costa Rica), and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Honoring the company’s late Lead Software Developer who passed away in October 2024, the $30,000 scholarship was divided between 11 students at Frómeta’s ULACIT alma mater, and three students at NJIT.

During the recent Honors Interdisciplinary Research Forum, high school students from Newark’s Science Park High School worked alongside students from NJIT's Albert Dorman Honors College as part of a service project, which allowed them to present their research on the effects of litter and street pollution in Newark.

Inspiration often sprouts in unexpected places. For electrical engineering students Kermina David '27 and Santiago Garcia '27, the taste of a tropical fruit swiftly ripened into an interest in greenhouses. It then branched into a quest to help farmers manage greenhouse crops more efficiently.

Leah-Marie Boake, Industrial Design ’26, and Albert Dorman Honor's College student, is distinguishing herself and the Industrial Design program at Hillier College with a nearly 12-month run of awards and recognitions.

Students from Albert Dorman Honors College’s courses – Introduction to Research Writing, Introduction to Research Methods, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology and Urban Transformation and Introduction to Sustainability Studies – presented their semester's research during the Honors Interdisciplinary Research Forum, with topics ranging from increasing civic engagement in Newark to a comparative analysis of the role of governmental incentives on accelerated electric vehicle adoption.
