From an estimated pool of over 5,000 college sophomores and juniors, two NJIT students — Danna Valentina Sanchez Hernandez and Owen West — have been named Goldwater Scholars this year by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. The scholarship is recognized as among the country’s most prestigious for STEM undergraduates pursuing research careers.

Celebration, NJIT’s annual fundraiser for campuswide scholarship funds, was a huge success and raised more than $370,000 this year. Celebration is NJIT’s single-largest fundraising event. Since it was established in 1995, this black-tie gala has raised more than $8 million in scholarship funds.

The dedication of the lobby of the most popular residence hall at New Jersey Institute of Technology was truly a family affair.

While accepting the recognition, Donald Dinallo, a builder whose company, Terminal Construction Corp. in Wood-Ridge, N.J., led the construction of Maple Hall, stood before a crowd that included his wife, children and grandchildren. A contingent of work colleagues, NJIT leaders and students also were on hand.

A natural disaster in Turkey brought transfer student Ibrahim Aras, who is studying financial technology, to NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management.

Before the magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit on February 6, 2023, all was well with Aras, at the time a computer science major, who graduated from one of the best international science high schools in Turkey and fulfilled his dream to attend college in America, where he studied at Drexel University.

Cross River Bank has funded an annual scholarship that will support first-generation, low-income NJIT students majoring in FinTech — the Cross River Opportunity Scholarship.

Through its charitable organization, Foundation@ Cross River, the bank focuses its philanthropy in areas such as education to provide direct support to organizations and students, with the goal of empowering young people to be successful in finance-related fields.

Students at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) have again achieved an impressive amount of prestigious awards this year with 11 students earning nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships. Their achievement continues NJIT run, with Highlanders amassing 34 of these awards in the past three years.

A marquee event during Inauguration Week was the Scholarship Reception and Networking event, which invites generous benefactors who have created scholarships at the university to engage directly with the student beneficiaries at a celebratory luncheon.

The event humanizes and demonstrates the impact of giving back and removing a financial burden to those who may need it most, as President Teik C. Lim told his own story of how a scholarship changed his, and subsequently his family’s life.
