Carson Williams is returning to his native Texas after earning a master’s in engineering management at New Jersey Institute of Technology, a year after he earned a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering there.

He feels thoroughly prepared for his associate account representative role at Daikin Applied, an HVAC systems manufacturer in Austin. Why? Because he developed a broad range of skills in a series of experiences on and off campus, both as a grad student and undergraduate.

A record number of students and alumni attended New Jersey Institute of Technology’s latest Career Fair — 3,300 — with some 240 companies looking to fill more than 1,000 jobs, internships and cooperative education experiences.

The macro numbers were impressive — for the third straight fair — but it was smaller moments that students appreciated most, such as the opportunity to talk one-on-one with representatives of companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Mars and Campbell Soup. 

Volleyball has enabled NJIT’s Mason-William Matos to represent the Dominican Republic, see the world and express himself with joy.

As a teenager, he played on Dominican Republic national teams, making him a seasoned setter for the Highlanders when he arrived in 2019. Four years later, the mathematical sciences major from the Class of 2023 is poised to join BNY Mellon in New York as a risk and compliance analyst.

New Jersey Institute of Technology is celebrating Marjorie Perry, an exemplary alumna and member of its Board of Overseers, for her lasting contributions to the university.

Perry, president and CEO of MZM Construction Co. in Newark, N.J., supports scholarships and athletics, helps raise money for the university and mentors students, offering real-world advice and internships. All of that illustrates her skills as a leader and dedication as an alum.

NJIT’s fall Career Fair — its first in-person fair since the onset of the pandemic — set dual records for attendance, with more than 2,500 students and 233 companies participating.

NJIT students have found excellent work in co-ops and internships this summer. It is a great way to gain real-world experience in their field of study, and to network with professionals in their chosen field. And, of course, the added benefit of earning money to help pay for tuition and other expenses.

NJIT’s Career Development Services recognized both a graduate student and undergrad in its annual intern and co-op of the year awards.

The grad student, Pooja Kittanakere Balaji ’22, is pursuing a master’s in computer science, while the undergrad, Rivka Farrell ’23, is majoring in biology.

CDS honored Farrell for her work as a research intern at the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute during the summer of 2021, and Balaji for her role in a cooperative educational experience at Siemens Digital Industries between June and December 2021.

Among the honorees at this year’s College of Science and Liberal Arts Awards at NJIT were seven members of the Class of 2021 who earned the Outstanding Undergraduate Award. We caught up with four of them, who reflected on their unique experiences and accomplishments over the past four years and shared their bright future plans.

A new NJIT-led project is making learning about the abstract world of organic chemistry a fresher, interactive experience that students can now easily explore in hi-res action through their digital devices. Already, it’s created quite a reaction among young chemists and their teachers around the world. 

The new web project, called Visualize Organic Chemistry (VOC), was launched in March by students in the research group of NJIT Assistant Professor of Chemistry Pier Alexandre Champagne.
