With students back in classrooms this fall, educators and superintendents across New Jersey were once again welcomed back to NJIT’s campus to network and discuss fresh ways they can enrich hands-on STEM learning in their schools at the university’s fifth annual STEM School Leadership Forum — “Bringing Cutting-Edge STEM into Your Classrooms.”

Since the end of March, Rukayat Balogun has been working remotely for Facebook as a site logistics analyst, overseeing staff that maintain the servers and the facility, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. She will move to the Atlanta area in July for this position, which came her way last fall when a fellow student in NJIT’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) introduced Balogun to a visiting Facebook recruiter. The company flew her down south for what turned out to be a series of video interviews, followed by a bit of a wait.
When Jeremy Bedient was navigating Career Development Services’ (CDS) Spring 2019 Career Fair, seeking a co-op with Johnson & Johnson was nowhere on his radar. But at the moment he passed by the company’s supply-chain booth and saw there was no line, he figured “why not” and took advantage of the opportunity to network with the recruiter. They wound up engaging in a great conversation about Six Sigma, and Bedient was invited to interview for a spot later that week.

Among other notable rankings, the acute-care teaching hospital has received 16 A ratings in a row from the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, and is one of less than 41 hospitals in the country to achieve this consistency.
When NJIT holds its 103rd Commencement May 21, more than 100 Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) seniors will officially move on from their undergraduate study to begin the next chapter in their lives. While their plans after EOP may differ, the four years they’ve shared in the program provided them all with a uniquely supportive and familial environment.
Here, we take a look at where just a few are going.
Gloria Brewster
This year’s Albert Dorman Honors College (ADHC) freshman class has already set records. The group is 43 percent female, includes 13 New Jersey Medical School students and boasts an average SAT score of 1475.
Aside from these fantastic figures, the incoming class is noteworthy for its geography. A sizable number of students are coming to NJIT from outside New Jersey, some from as far away as California.
