NJIT's annual Graduate Student Association Research Day returned to the campus this week, after being cancelled last year because of COVID, with 39 students who are pursuing doctoral and master's degrees showcasing their cutting-edge research on topics such as the pandemic, climate, transportation and cybersecurity.
U.S. News & World Report has released its 2022 rankings for the nation’s top graduate schools, with NJIT ranked among the best for graduate degree programs in engineering. The university slots in this year at No. 88 — up 23 positions in the past seven years — and has been included on the distinguished list since 2003. The 2022 rankings mark the sixth consecutive year NJIT has appeared in the top 100.
NJIT's Graduate Student Association is donating $50,000 to the Highlander Student Emergency Fund, matching the same amount donated by the undergraduate Student Senate in August.
For doctoral student Gayani Gunarathna, the Ph.D. Professional Development Series of seminars offered by NJIT’s Graduate Studies Office (GSO) has been a boon as she gets set to launch her career. Gunarathna, who will be a geotechnical engineer in New York City for WSP USA, a global engineering professional services firm, said she has a lot of useful information to draw upon from the series.
NJIT has been named one of the country’s Best Graduate Schools for Business in U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 listing. Only two other universities in New Jersey are ranked in this category.

From traditional classroom learning and accelerated programs to online and hybrid (combining online and face-to-face) instruction, graduate students at NJIT have a variety of options to earn advanced degrees. They also have a lot of choice, with 50+ master’s programs (including 15 fully online), 19 doctoral programs and 40 certificate programs representing an array of STEM disciplines.
They represent a sizable segment of NJIT’s student population — about a quarter — and come from around the country and the world to attend the university and acquire advanced skills to secure successful professional careers. Indeed, graduate students are pursuing degrees in a range of academic disciplines through a variety of instructional formats, from traditional classroom or face-to-face learning, to online and hybrid (combines online and face-to-face) learning.
