When Sepehr Rahimi came to NJIT to study cell and gene therapy, he was looking for more than classroom knowledge. He wanted to work where science met real-world application.

He found that connection quickly. An NJIT experience shaped by industry led him to an internship at BioCentriq, then to a full-time role as the organization grew and evolved into MADE Scientific.

NJIT’s Dana Knox Research Showcase filled the Bloom Wellness and Events Center with student research spanning science, engineering, computing, management and the humanities. With poster presentations, two-minute elevator speeches and Board Day luncheon attendees moving through the event, the showcase offered a cross-disciplinary snapshot of research activity across the university.

New Jersey Institute of Technology is partnering with Made Scientific, Inc. to help develop a new graduate bioprocessing elective within NJIT’s Master of Science program in Chemical and Materials Engineering. Launching in Spring 2027, the course is intended to prepare students for work in cell and gene therapy manufacturing while further strengthening NJIT’s ties to New Jersey’s growing biopharma sector.

Liliana Torres’s architecture has always been about people. 

“The way I want my story to be told is through how everything I learned at NJIT continues to translate into my professional life — the values, the sense of responsibility, and the commitment to helping others never stopped at graduation,” she said.

Torres '17, '18 is an undergraduate and graduate alumna of the Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD), as well as a scholar of the Albert Dorman Honors College.

New Jersey Institute of Technology Ph.D. student Günel Nabiyeva has co-authored a new study in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science that demonstrates how engineering tools can accurately predict how sunscreens “feel” on the skin — bridging scientific measurement and human perception.

The collaboration, which began through a National Science Foundation (NSF) INTERN supplement and continued under NJIT’s Experiential Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP), connects academic research with industrial product development at Colgate-Palmolive.

Time management and discipline were key to Arina Babkova’s success as a graduate student at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Why? Because she completed her master’s in management at NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management in two semesters while playing Division I tennis at a high level in the spring and fall. Her mentors were impressed.

NJIT’s Dana Knox Research Showcase returned in 2025 to once again highlight the innovative and impactful work of students across disciplines. The event celebrated undergraduate and graduate researchers tackling real-world challenges with creative, technical solutions.

Now in its 20th year, the showcase was also its largest — over 150 presentations by 200+ students spanned all six of NJIT’s colleges.
