The Hispanic Association of Computing College Students (HACCS) at NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing has taken off and is already seeing a great turnout in their inaugural meetings. 

This Hispanic-oriented club seeks to cater to the needs of Hispanic computing students and create a group that will allow them to support each other with computing coursework and make ties that create a homelike atmosphere at NJIT.

The Hispanic and Latinx Leadership Council (HLLC) held Café y Conexiones to kick off this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations at NJIT. 

Launched in January 2022, Café y Conexiones brings together NJIT’s Hispanic and Latinx students with HLLC members, alumni, and business and civic leaders in the Hispanic and Latinx communities on a regular basis during the academic year.

Tobiloba Fashae knew he wanted to learn how to design the technology of the future while still attending Hunterdon Regional High School. At first, it was automotive engineering since he’s an avid fan of high-performance sports cars. During an isolated year of self-reflection in his senior year of high school, he found his calling in industrial design. Now, he’s a freshman at NJIT’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design and an Albert Dorman Honors Scholar.

Among the honorees at this year’s College of Science and Liberal Arts Awards at NJIT were seven members of the Class of 2021 who earned the Outstanding Undergraduate Award. We caught up with four of them, who reflected on their unique experiences and accomplishments over the past four years and shared their bright future plans.

Undergrads Suzanne Hlinka ’21 and Nada Boules ‘21 have been applying the skills in game development and interior design that they’ve picked up at NJIT, and Mother Earth is thanking them for it. This past year, the pair of students began artistic projects promoting a more sustainable planet, and now, their creative talents have been recognized with the “Jim Wise Scholarship for Theatre: Communicating the Environment Through Art.”
