The American Astronomical Society (AAS) has named Dale Gary, distinguished professor of physics at NJIT’s Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research (CSTR), one of 24 new AAS Fellows for 2025.

The Society annually honors the most distinguished members from its global community of over 8,000 astronomers, recognizing extraordinary achievements and service in the astronomical sciences.

With artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT rapidly gaining traction among students and teachers alike, it’s no surprise the topic took center focus at NJIT’s 8th Annual STEM Forum for School Leaders, “Leading the Digital Transformation in Our Schools.”

As part of NJIT’s Strategic Plan 2030, the university is excited to announce the launch of the Center for Educational Innovation and Excellence (CEIE), a pivotal initiative designed to enhance teaching practices and learning outcomes. The CEIE will replace the Institute for Teaching Excellence (ITE), which has long served as NJIT’s primary resource for faculty professional development in pedagogy and educational technology.

As interim dean of NJIT’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design, Gabrielle Esperdy found ways to apply design thinking to the challenges of leading an academic college of more than 1,000 students.

Now, as she starts her first month as dean, she realizes that her background prepared her well for administration. Also, the support of President Teik C. Lim and Provost John Pelesko spurred her to be an active interim dean and ultimately apply for the job.

The transparent larval zebrafish (Danio rerio) is only 4mm long, but for NJIT biologist Kristen Severi, the vertebrate offers an expansive window for exploration into how the brain and nervous system controls behavior.

“Like putting a big puzzle together, we’re trying to understand all the circuits in the brain that control locomotion,” said Severi. “If the spinal cord is damaged, it can result in paralysis, but we still don't understand all the pieces we’d need to restore full function.
