New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) today announced the launch of PureTrace Labs, a startup created to bring NJIT-developed technology for rapid detection of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to market.

The company marks the first official launch from NJII’s Venture Studio, supported by an investment of up to $1 million.

Scholarships help many students get to college, but for Jonathan Kozlik a scholarship to New Jersey Institute of Technology led him to a technical conference in Florida, where he found inspiration to form his own company testing the security of other people’s artificial intelligence applications.

Melissa De Cunto and Nalan Kus, both seniors in NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management, are recipients of this year's New Jersey Business & Industry Association’s Rising Star Award.

“NJBIA’s Rising Star Awards honor students who have demonstrated a passion for their career path, academic success and a commitment to their communities during their undergraduate careers,” association CEO Michele Siekerka stated.

The Princeton Review continues to recognize New Jersey Institute of Technology as one of the best universities in the U.S.

NJIT is featured in this year’s edition of the educational services company’s guide, The Best 391 Colleges. Just 15% of all four-year colleges and universities made the guide, which NJIT has been in since its inception in 1992. The selections are listed alphabetically.

Oya Tukel leads the Martin Tuchman School of Management at New Jersey Institute of Technology like a business — and a scrappy, entrepreneurial one at that.

“We’re nimble and flexible with a simple organizational structure. We’re very flat. We share the work. Also, faculty has flexibility to teach in different areas,” said Tukel, now beginning her seventh year as dean of MTSM. 

New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Aliza Mujahid, a senior biomedical engineering student, along with mechanical engineering Ph.D. student and research assistant Mohammad Jafari, reached the final round-of-eight in the 2025 U.S. Hult Prize competition for social-minded startup founders.

The duo, with Assistant Professor Farid Alisafaei and colleagues at Washington University, represent a new company called DermaMech that aims to better understand the science of human skin grafting and develop technology that will reduce infections, rejections and scarring.

Jordan Hu ’89, CEO of RiskVal Financial Solutions, and a distinguished alumnus of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), has been named a finalist for the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year New Jersey award. Now in its 40th year, the award celebrates entrepreneurs who are shaping the future through groundbreaking companies.

NJIT served as the venue for a March 19 gubernatorial forum dedicated to exploring the challenges and solutions for fostering small and diverse business growth across New Jersey. The New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) announced awards to two institutions of higher education under the state’s pilot Global Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (Global EIR) program.
