Nyssa Nixon volunteered at Isaiah House shelter through Jack and Jill of America and tutored peers as a member of the National Honor Society.  

NJIT’s Education Opportunity Program (EOP) recently hosted a marquee conference with over 100 attendees that brought together students, alumni and industry leaders. The conference featured speakers, panel discussions and Q&As regarding challenges and opportunities in the modern workplace and ways to provide benefits for first-generation college students.

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has elected co-vice chair of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Board of Trustees Norma Clayton ’81 as a new member. The culmination of a yearlong process, Clayton is part of a new cohort of 111 national and 22 international members, bringing the NAE’s total U.S. membership to 2,388 and the number of international members to 310.

NJIT President Joel S. Bloom has been presented the Lifetime Achievement award by The National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc. for his and the university’s extensive experience, notable accomplishments and role as a leader, role model and significant contributor in championing diversity in STEM.

Among the honorees at this year’s College of Science and Liberal Arts Awards at NJIT were seven members of the Class of 2021 who earned the Outstanding Undergraduate Award. We caught up with four of them, who reflected on their unique experiences and accomplishments over the past four years and shared their bright future plans.

A generous scholarship enabled Charu Arya to attend New Jersey Institute of Technology, and her professors helped solidify her career path. Indeed, both financial assistance and academic support fueled her success.

Arya ’21 reflected on that fruitful journey during NJIT’s annual Scholarship Brunch, sharing a pivotal moment during her sophomore year when she reconsidered her initial decision to study medicine.
