With a new grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), NJIT’s internationally-recognized Institute for Space Weather Sciences (ISWS) will now host a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program site — offering unique summer research opportunities for students in the dynamic field of space weather science.

The new 10-week space weather research program is expected to enroll eight undergraduates annually throughout the summers of 2022-2024.  

With students back in classrooms this fall, educators and superintendents across New Jersey were once again welcomed back to NJIT’s campus to network and discuss fresh ways they can enrich hands-on STEM learning in their schools at the university’s fifth annual STEM School Leadership Forum — “Bringing Cutting-Edge STEM into Your Classrooms.”

In a new study, scientists conclude that the sideways flow of water through soil can have an important impact on how riparian forests respond to climate change. Models used to predict the future plight of forests typically don’t account for this factor — but they should, researchers say.

This summer, the 2021 Virtual New Jersey Chemistry Olympics (vNJCO) once again became the grounds for a fierce two weeks of competition between young chemists from high schools around the state. Amid the many new lab facilities that have recently risen across NJIT’s campus, Associate Professor of Philosophy Britt Holbrook is laying the groundwork for an initiative he contends will be just as vital in driving impactful research and innovation at the university and beyond for years to come — a center for ethics. 

In the span of just a few short weeks, NJIT student Braeden Perdue has gone from taking a summer job as a community organizer helping promote COVID-19 vaccine education and access across New Jersey, to becoming a voice for health care equality during the pandemic that has reached the White House and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
