Ants. Sure, most are harmless and inconspicuous. Though, there are always exceptions.

Army ants, bulldog ants and fire ants are a few living members of the family Formicidae that nature television viewers might recognize from any number of “World’s Deadliest” countdown shows that populate the airwaves these days.

The Solar Decathlon exhibition opened Monday April 15 at the Littmann Library at the College of Architecture and Design. The exhibition documents the design and construction of the solar house that was built as part of the final phase of Solar Decathlon China, a competition by the U.S. Department of Energy. The interdisciplinary team of NJIT engineering, interior design and architecture students was led by Han Yan, Ph.D. student in urban systems, and Gernot Riether, director of the School of Architecture at NJIT.

For most, the stark black and white images produced through computed tomography (CT) may not ignite much imagination beyond the routine bone scans that we'd see at the radiologist's lab. However, for NJIT Assistant Professor of Architecture and Design, Mathew Schwartz, the technology has become the creative medium by which he is building a library of digital art, steeped in the niche field of x-ray photography.

The College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) at NJIT is honored to present an exhibition of Alexandra Schoenberg’s and Leslie Adler’s solo and collaborative works called “Psycho-geographies.” These collaborative works present the viewer with an alternating process of internalizing and projecting from the outer space of the world to the inner space of the mind. As observers, we exist outside what is observed but at the same time we internalize through empathy. We create dioramas as a vehicle for looking at what we frame and what frames us.

The College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) has released their spring lecture series lineup, which are free and open to the public. This series features an eclectic mix that includes themes like innovation, urbanism and religiosity in the public space, to the yearly design showcase signature event. All lectures begin at 5 p.m. in Weston Hall 1.
