Redshirt sophomore Rene White scored the lone goal of the match and goalkeeper Victor Pujades notched his first shutout of the season in NJIT's 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart in the season opener for both teams at Kean University East Campus Facility Friday evening.



Friday marked the second straight season the Highlanders kicked off against Sacred Heart and came out on top, 1-0.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recognized the NJIT women's volleyball team for the AVCA's annual team academic award covering the 2017-18 academic year, the AVCA announced.

The Highlanders earned their fifth straight team academic award, maintaining a minimum grade point average of a 3.30 for the academic year.

The NJIT women were one of 164 NCAA Division I programs recognized to receive the accolade for the 2017-18 season.

When Edward Jheryl Wilson graduated from NJIT in 2011, he did so in heroic fashion — etching his name in university lore by leading the Highlanders to their first winning season since joining the elite ranks of Division I basketball in 2006 — and becoming NJIT’s first Division I 1,000-point scorer in the process.

However, Wilson’s successful journey in top-level athletics was not without adversity from the start, nor would his journey be quite over after he left NJIT.

In the first ASUN Beam Video Series, the conference features student-athletes across the ASUN that have made an Impact in the classroom, in competition and in the community. Throughout the spring, the ASUN will feature two student-athletes from each institution that epitomize the conference's beam of Impact.

Rising women's basketball senior Kelly Guarino was one of 200 student-athletes to be selected and participate in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis from May 31-June 3. The Career in Sports Forum provided college athletes with a broader scope of the career tracks available within the sports business, with the primary focus on college athletics. It provided student-athletes interactive experiences with successful individuals in the sports business and a peek into their day-to-day duties and responsibilities.

NJIT men's basketball incoming freshman Souleymane Diakite, one of the top five seniors from St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark, was recognized Tuesday, June 6 on the campus of NJIT, earning an Academic Achievement Award presented by Mayor Ras J. Baraka.

Seniors Brian Sondergard and Jesse Uttendorfer and junior Sean Lubreski were named to the 13-person ASUN All-Academic team the conference announced on the eve of the 2018 ASUN Baseball Tournament.

Thirteen athletes appear on the 2018 ASUN Baseball All-Academic squad with the highest vote-getters receiving Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honors. All nominees should be in their second year of school attendance or later and hold a minimum of a 3.30 GPA.

NJIT men's volleyball coach Danny Goncalves announced the addition of five newcomers, who will join the Highlanders for the upcoming 2019 season.

The incoming group includes: transfer Enrique de Diego Garcia (MB; Madrid, Spain), Roque Nido (S; Guayama, Puerto Rico), Jens Feldhus (OH; Frederiksberg, Denmark), Derek Evans (M/OPP; Virginia Beach, VA) and Will Andrews (OH; Lexington, KY).
