NJIT President Teik C. Lim Elected Fellow of INCE-USA
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) President Teik C. Lim has been elected to the distinguished class of Fellows of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the United States of America (INCE-USA), one of the field’s highest professional honors.
The Fellowship recognizes Lim’s pioneering contributions to noise and vibration control, his sustained record of innovation and mentorship, and his long-standing service to INCE-USA.
Contributions to Noise and Vibration Control
Lim’s academic career spans more than three decades of research in gear dynamics, vibro-acoustics, active noise control, and sound quality engineering. His doctoral dissertation on vibration transmission in geared rotor systems — awarded the Graduate Council Distinguished Dissertation Award at The Ohio State University — set the stage for a prolific career at the intersection of precision mechanical design and vibro-acoustics.
He went on to establish multiple research laboratories in vibro-acoustics and sound quality at leading institutions, forging collaborations with major American and Far East automotive manufacturers. His work has been described as essential to the numerous automotive company’s competitive advantage in vehicle interior sound quality, leading to multiple U.S. and international patents, and many publications and industry-adopted methodologies for active noise cancellation (ANC) and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) analysis.
A dedicated mentor, Lim has supervised dozens of graduate students, many of whom have gone on to leadership and applied research positions across the automotive and aerospace industries.
Recognition and Leadership
Lim is already a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers. His service to INCE-USA includes terms as director, vice president of publications and technical activities, and numerous committee chairs.
Throughout his academic and administrative career — including service as the current president of New Jersey Institute of Technology, provost and interim president at the University of Texas at Arlington, and dean of engineering at the University of Cincinnati — Lim has bridged advanced research with institutional leadership. Since joining NJIT in 2022, he has continued to elevate the university’s role as a hub of innovation and applied research.
“I am deeply honored by this nomination and grateful to the INCE-USA Board of Directors for their recognition,” said President Teik C. Lim. “My career in noise control engineering research has given me the opportunity to explore how innovation can improve quality of life, and that same spirit guides my leadership today at NJIT. At its heart, our work is about designing, building and innovating for humanity — ensuring that what we discover and create makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”
