NJIT scored a goal in each half and goalkeeper Samuel Reisgys made a diving save in the final minutes on a Rider penalty kick as the Highlanders and Broncs played to a 2-2 draw in non-conference men's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Ben Cohen Stadium.
NJIT picks up its second tie of the season and concludes a season-opening seven match road swing, moving to 2-3-2 overall while Rider stands at 1-4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rider got on the board in the 11th minute on an own goal for a 1-0 lead.
In the 85th minute, NJIT senior keeper Samuel Reisgys came up with a huge save on a Rider penalty kick by Diene Babacar.
NOTEWORTHY
The goal for Del Valle, a transfer from Northwestern, was his second in a Highlander uniform and sixth of his career.
Navio Sanchez' assist was his first as a Highlander and third of his career. Prior to joining the Highlanders, Navio Sanchez played one season at Erskine.
Aguirre-Rosa's goal was his first of his young career.
The save in the 85th minute by co-captain Reisgys was his 206 career save, which ranks tied for first in the NJIT Division I era with Victor Pujades'19. Reisgys combined for three saves on seven shots faced by the Rider squad.
NJIT held a 12-6 advantage in overall shots and 8-4 with shots on goal. Del Valle and Jack Krongold each combined for three shots.

NJIT will open its 2022 home campaign on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. when the Highlanders host Sacred Heart. The 2022 season marks the first time NJIT opened up the season with seven road contests. In 2017, NJIT opened the season on a five-match road swing.
